Concept Art ☆。*
Probably my favorite thing to do in a project. I like exploring concepts and taking them as far as possible to see where it could go. I mainly enjoy doing character concept art, starting from an idea or a feeling that I try to capture in a moodboard alongside very vague sketches if an idea for a silhouette is already something I have a decent grasp on. After that, it's the usual song and dance of tweaking designs and color palettes here and there until the desired version of the character emerges from all those messy studies and sketches.
For character concept art, I tend to jump from traditional to digital media very regularly since both have their ups and downs. Traditional media allows me to have a much more expressive style, so concepts for shapes and actions come out easier. However, digital allows me a much more organized way of working with how easy it is to replicate, copy and paste images all together. Jumping around the two mediums of art allows me to experiment as much as I can afford to.
For my finals project, I animated a 3 minute short of a kindergarten kid who, after doing something bad at school, returns home and talks about it with the monster under her bed. For this project, I had to do concept art for everything; characters, backgrounds and props. It was a good exercise to force me to get out of my comfort zone but still work on something I was passionate about.
