" In my restless dreams, I see that town.
Silent Hill.
You promised you'd take me there again someday
but you never did.
Well, I'm alone there now
In our special place
Waiting for you. "
Silent Hill 2 was a game released for the Playstation 2 on September 25, 2001. It was a smashing success due to its eerie ambience, stellar music, unnerving characters and a plot few would forget. It has since become a cult classic, regarded as one of the best horror games of all time.
On October 7, 2024, a remake was released after months of high expectations. To everyone's shock, the remake surpassed the original, managing to keep the most important pieces intact and expand on what had space to grow. It now sits very close to its predecessor in terms of praise and quality.
The plot goes as such:
Having received a letter from his deceased wife, James heads to where they shared so many memories, in the hope of seeing her one more time: Silent Hill. But the town is no longer the special place where they'd shared so many good memories. The town is overrun with monsters, and other curious people wander about, seemingly looking for someone as well. Amidst all of this, James presses on to find out if his wife really is still alive ouyt there, somewhere.
I first came into contact with the series not through the games as many others did. My mother had a DVD of the first movie; the cover of a little girl without a mouth and horrendous monsters captivated my curiosity (fun fact - in Portugal, the movie's title was changed to "The Curse of the Valley" so it took me forever to associate the two). I was never allowed to watch it - for obvious reasons - but finally managed to do so once I got older. I must've watched the movie when I was around 10-12 years old, still way too young to do so, but hey my mother allowed me to do so. Once I got online though, I discovered the games and conversations about them. I can't remember whose gameplay I watched, or whose theories I read, but Silent Hill 2 has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember despite me having never played any of the games due to how rare physical copies are to come around these days.
I've always been a passive fan off the franchise, but I started getting back into it a lot with the small tidbits of content that came out around 2020. The collaborations with games like "Dead by Daylight" and weirdly enough "Dark Deception : Monster and Mortals" reignited the fandom, as everyone could tell that the brand was being put in the public eye once again, purposedly so this time (we still mourn P.T., we will always mourn P.T.) On October 19, 2022, we got all the peoper announcements in the form of an official livestream by Konami themselves: new games and remakes, movies, more merch. Silent Hill was finally prepared for a full-force comeback and the fans rejoiced... mostly.
I remember the disappointment online when people learned BlooberTeam were the ones responsible for the Silent Hill 2 remake. They didn't have a stellar track record and nobody had faith that they'd be able to do anything that could even match what the og game did. Now in 2026, almost two whole years after the remake came out, I'm so happy to say everyone ows an apolegy to that team.
Below is a list of some of the merch I've managed to snatch of this series! It's hard to come across Silent Hill merch for an affordable price so I'm already a little proud of my collection teehee
