Bitela

Bitela is a humanoid stag beetle creature who lives in the Bug Block in The Great Forest. She’s the owner of the town’s flower market, being a quiet but very serving bug.
In the series, Bitela is the brawn, the muscles of the group; she’s very trusting and loyal to her friends, a very loyal member of the group.

Profile

Appearence

Bitela is a humanoid stag beetle creature. Her body is a cartoonish humanoid for the waist up and beetle-looking from the waist down, being particularly bulky and strong looking. Her body is covered in black fur except for the face and areas where she’s covered in a dark blue and pink chitin shell similar to a bug’s exoskeleton.

Her face is square-ish and white, pink and blue eyes with two small, round eyelashes. Her nose is diamond shaped and pink, her mouth a small upside-down V-shape. On each side of her face, next to her cheeks are two bug pincers in the same dark blue shade as parts of her body. Two thin antennae sprouting from her hairline with a small round blue shape at the tip. Behind her pincers, two larger blue pincers extend outwards, and then upwards away from her head, the tips with two round protrusions and black. Her hair is black and pulled back into two big sharp ponytails tied with pink ribbon at the base.

Bitela doesn’t wear any clothes. Her chest is a round, large, darl-blue shape with smaller pink oval marks lining its lower half. Her arms are big and fluffy, larger at the shoulders. Her abdomen is separated in two round segments: an upper pink shape, and a black fluffy lower part. From the waist down, her body extends backwards in an oval shape with two black fluffy limbs on each side. The whole lower half is in dark blue chitin with black seed-like marks surrounding it. Wing covers sit on the back of her lower half, dark blue with a dripping pink texture covering half of it from the bottom-up. Her paws and hands have pawpads; the digits cyan and the palms yellow.

Personality

Bitela is a loyal but shy person; she’s quiet, stoic, but not exactly “brave”. She may look intimidating at first, but in reality, Bitela is a big softie and wishes nothing more than to spend her life in her little corner, doing what she loves and knows helps the community. She has big sis vibes among her group, but that’s only something other people would say about her. Being the muscles of the group, Bitela likes to feel helpful by using her super strength to solve practical problems around town. With that, she gets very nervous when she doesn’t know how to help her friends and has a tendency to bottle up her own feelings or problems, worried that since everyone needs her help, she must not let people not be able to rely on her.

Story

Bitela is the newest member of the Bug Block, having moved in pretty recently. With her, she opened a flowershop in town, something cheery and colorful to revive the place. Bitela lives inside a hollowed out tree, which she decorates with various flowers and moss. As her job implies, Bitela likes to grown her own flowers. She loves her flowers to death, and is not scared of getting dirty to take care of them.

Her friend group says she’s a “cottagecore butch”, though she has no idea what any of that means.

Relationships

Purp

Purp is one of the people who Bitela gets along with the best. She’s a good friend for mindless hangouts and “introspective nothing chats”, as they call them. Their shared love for gardening and planting their own stuff - food for Purp, flowers for Bitela - keeps them in conversation about whatever new gardening techniques and tricks they get an antenna on from the great vine. Bitela’s quiet, calm demeanour goes along well with Purp’s “go with the flow” mentality, though sometimes Bitela worries Purp leaves too many things to chance. Even with her critiques, the two are very casual but close friends, and Bitela envies how Purp can do her own thing despite of how other people perceive her for it, for she too wishes she had that kind of spirit.

Butters

Butters scares the living hell out of Bitela. The butterfly makes Bitela worry about how she might become if her worries and overworking go unchecked. With Butters finding a new calling every week and being very obsessive about it, it tends to create chaotic comedic situations in the group. Bitela can’t handle people screaming at her, so when Butters is on about whatever calling she’s had this time, she usually retreats to the back of the group and lets Purp and Sticks handle the situation.

Nick "Sticks"

Nick and Bitela are the unlikely friends of the group. Used to working with kids, Nick is the more emotionally mature of the group, so Bitela feels best talking to them about more complicated problems. They can bounce very well off of each other, Sticks explaining and turning Bitela’s bundles of complicated feelings into precise problems with a road already paved for what their solutions could be. However, they do end up having their anxieties and paranoias bumped up to 11 when working only the two of them, ending up being too cautious about things and getting stuck in semantics.

Trivia

• Bitela is based off of jewel stag beetles. They species is known for being decently big and shiny, their shells having metallic colored hues.


• Bitela's name comes from the the Old English origin for the word beetle, bitela, meaning "little biter", related to bītan (to bite).
