Adelaide
- Adelaide
Adelaide is a Toon hare that resides in Wasteland. She resided in OsTown as a mechanic before the Thinner Disaster, which split him into multiple body parts, washing away some of them and leaving him as a pile of spare bits. Still trying to find her missing body parts, she scavenged Wasteland, fixing herself with stitched-up parts as she went. All out of luck, he travelled to MickeyJunk Mountain as a last resort, hoping his missing pieces washed up there. Adelaide currently lives in MickeyJunk Mountain with Elodie and M1N-US.
In-game, Adelaide would've been a character similar to the Gremlins, as he's well-versed in mechanics: he'd be a good source of Quests for items like Sparks, Collectables and Tickets.
Profile
Appearence
Adelaide is a vaguely rabbit-shaped Toon. His body has the proportions of old 1920s "rubberhose" cartoons, though somewhat blockier and sharper; her limbs are a little longer than the usual. Adelaide's skin is black with patches of green stitched across her body, and her face is a pale cream. He has black pie-cut eyes and a roundish square nose, also black. Adelaide has two long rabbit ears that always sit horizontally on her head, never standing up straight. She has long rabbit feet with three toes.
Adelaide wears a long, muddy-aqua colored skirt, the front shorter than the back. She has no gloves or shoes.
Her color palette can change to reflect how she's been affected by the player's Playstyle Matters, though the colors described above are the ones she's seen most often in.
Personality
Adelaide is a headstrong toon. She's the brains of the group, being tech and mechanic savvy in a place full of trash she can fix and change to her advantage. He tends to be a very straight-forward, no-nonsense toon, which leads him to be a little dry on genuine humor. Because of that, Adelaide believes it is her job to fix all her issues by herself. He's slow to ask other toons for help, but will eventually do so if backed into a corner, or finds himself with too much for a one-toon job.
Story
Adelaide was a Toon hare living in OsTown as a mechanic. She worked mostly on fixing cars and whatever appliances the citizens of OsTown needed fixed. As the Thinner Disaster drowned Wasteland, Adelaide was caught up in the mess. With the momentary floods of Thinner and Blotling attacks, her body parts, usually loose enough to pull out for cartoonish gags, fell apart and disappeared. He was able to fix himself for the moment, stitching together replacement parts until he could find his original ones. Adelaide travelled Wasteland looking for his missing body parts, but would always come up empty-handed. Determined to not come back home until she was complete, she ventured into MickeyJunk Mountain in a last ditch hope of finding her missing parts there.
There, she first met Elodie, a Toon - or so she claimed to be - who had been kicked out of Mean Street due to other toons suspecting her of being a Blotling in disguise. The two bickered a lot, Elodie being Adelaide's only company on the island, even if neither liked the other that much. They managed to make a home out of the things that washed down the mountain, and now reside there together. They were eventually joined by M1N-US, a robot assistant whom Adelaide made to help them during scavenging missions and other quests around the mountain.
Hero
During the Hero route, Adelaide would become more welcoming to Elodie's weird antics, even if she wasn't exactly sure why Elodie was the way she was. For once, Adelaide didn't feel like he needed to fix something, but just accept it as it was. This would help them get a lot of closure about their missing body parts, coming to terms with the fact that she may never see them again, but that didn't mean she wasn't whole. During the last battle against the Blot, Adelaide can be seen back in OsTown fighting off Blotlings. In the end, she returns to Mean Street with Min to be reunited with Elodie.
Wastelander
During the Wastelander route, Adelaide still struggles with the fact that he may never be whole again, though she's able to put that aside for the sake of helping Mickey in his journey up MickeyJunk Mountain to get to Oswald. At the end of the game, Adelaide is seen looking for Elodie, who disappeared amongst the chaos. It is implied she never finds her, and returns to OsTown with M1N-US.
Scrapper
During the Scrapper route, Adelaide is too worried about Elodie's behaviour to have any development of his own. At the revelation of Elodie being a Blotling, she's cornered alongside M1N-US by Elodie until Mickey arrives to defeat her. At the end of the game, Adelaide travels to Tomorrow City in hopes of being able to fix Min there, who was damaged after the fight with Elodie.
Relationships
Elodie
Annoying little thing turned lil' sis. Being opposites of each other, Adelaide and Elodie bicker a lot. While Elodie comes across as careless and unbothered, Adelaide tends to take everything seriously and be very straight to the point. Adelaide still wonders why Elodie is so determined to bicker with Adelaide despite his many attempts at ignoring her and telling her to go away. Despite their constant nagging of each other, they still care about each other a lot, having more than once jumped into dangerous situations to save or help each other out. If Elodie opens up to Adelaide about her worries, the hare Toon will reciprocate, telling Elodie about how he, too, has perhaps been too focused on his own goal to have a good read on anything else besides his own problems. Her and Elodie's relationship becomes much stronger after that, even if they still can't see eye-to-eye on some things. During the Hero route, Adelaide is the first one to stand by Elodie's side once she reveals herself to be a Blotling while protecting other Toons. During the Wastelander Scrapper routes, Adelaide is the most affected by Elodie's disappearance or betrayal, depending on the route.
M1N-US
Her creation turned friend. Adelaide created M1N-US as a helper bot, something to help Adelaide in her long excursions around the mountain to hopefully find her missing body parts. It was only due to Elodie's insistent humanization of M1N-US, or Min as she calls it, that Adelaide started changing her mind about the helper bot. What once was just a machine to help with a purpose soon became a friend, someone Adelaide could confide in and appreciate the company of. Despite still arguing with Elodie about it, she does end up seeing herself as some sort of "big sibling" to Min.
Trivia
- Adelaide despises being called a rabbit or a bunny, insisting that they're a hare. The fact that nobody remembers to refer to them as a hare is played mostly as a gag. According to Adelaide herself, the differences between rabbits and hares are that hares have larger bodies and less round shapes, which is reflected in her design when compared to rabbit characters such as Oswald, or even with other toons in general.
- Adelaide is one of my oldest ocs ever. She was created shortly after the first game's release (2010-2012) and has changed shockingly little since then. The only major differences to his original design were the change of the skirt's shape and color, from a stiff magenta skirt to a long aqua one.
- Like other Epic Mickey ocs of mine, a lot of them were repurposed for other fandoms with similar aesthetics, such as Bendy and The Ink Machine. Despite sharing the name, the two characters stand still very differently from each other.
