The Sewers
- Mr.Sul
The Sewers is an area in CHAPTER [[GARY]] referring to the city's sewer system.
It's an area in-game exclusive to the Outsider Route, as it is the place where the player can find and fight Dollie and Sweater.
Main Story
Insider Route
This area is not present at all in the Insider Route.
Outsider Route
During the Outsider Route, The Sewers serve as an area for the player to explore and find Dollie and Sweater, two of Sul's team members. The area also serves to give Kris and Ralsei some time alone to reflect on how Cyber City's Dark Fountain could've possibly been reopened. Furthermore, Ralsei shares his worries about how the more they looked around, the less likely it seemed that a Dark Fountain existed here at all. A Dark World without a Dark Fountain is unheard of, so Ralsei tries to brainstorm how that could even be possible. Amidst that, they get ambushed by Dollie and Sweater, the first immediately initiating combat while the other sticks behind her.
Sublocations
Sewer Entrance
The Sewer Entrance is the entrance area for the location. It is situated on the West side of the Dire District, where one of the streets narrows down into the opening of one of the sewer pipes. From there, Kris and Ralsei can enter the sewer system that runs under NEO City. This area is sparse in enemies and buildings until the player fully enters the sewers. In this area, it is possible to find some ChargerBoys who used to have the sewers as their hidden smoke break area, until "some weird noises started coming from inside". They'll stay at the entrance of the sewers but never go further in, and can be interacted with during the whole section of the game.
Cross Tunnels

The Cross Tunnels is the first area the party finds while entering the sewers. It's a crossroad-like formation where the sewer system splits into 3 paths, not counting the one that leads to the exit: a path to the left (West Tunnel), one to the right (East Tunnel), and a locked path forward (Frozen Tank). Inspecting the locked path ahead reveals it can be opened with two switches situated in the East and West tunnels. This will be the "main hub" area for the location. At Ralsei's indication, the party enters the East Tunnel first.
East Tunnel
The East Tunnel is one of the three tunnels the player visits during their quest to find both switches to open a path forward through the sewer system. The East Tunnel is unique for its frozen over look, with icicles growing on the ceiling, alongside some parts of the sewer acid freezing over, allowing for the party to cross from side to side of the tunnel.
- Staff Room E1-E3 : Staff Rooms are small rooms that the player can find as they traverse the tunnels. Some of them will have key or healing items for the player to grab during battles or puzzles. In one of the staff rooms, the player can find a puzzle that, when solved, will give them access to one of the switches.
West Tunnel
The West Tunnel is one of the three tunnels the player visits during their quest to find both switches to open a path forward through the sewer system. The West Tunnel is unique for its ghostly look, with dark tendrils descending from the ceiling and the occasional pair of eyes staring at the party through gaps in the walls. Some tendrils can form bridges over the sewer acid, allowing for the party to cross from side to side in the tunnel. This area is more heavily guarded, with Peepers roaming the tunnels and sometimes bumping into the party, which will initiate a battle.
- Staff Room W1-W3 : Staff rooms are small rooms that the player can find as they traverse the tunnels. Some of them will have key or healing items for the player to grab during battles or puzzles. In one of the staff rooms, the player can find a puzzle that, when solved, will give them access to one of the switches. In that same room, the player can also find a chest that contains the Doll Scarf, a weapon for Ralsei to help with the Dollie and Sweater boss fight.
Frozen Tank
The Frozen Tank is the final area of the Sewers, unlocked after turning both switchers on in the East and West Tunnels and unlocking the path forward. Like the name implies, the whole area is a massive acid tank that's been frozen over. Once the party steps over the frozen tank, the path they came from is suddenly blocked by the same tendrils found in the West Tunnel. The party gets ambushed by Dollie, who takes them for intruders. Behind her, Sweater rushes into battle to aid her. Once the battle is over and Kris informs Dollie and Sweater they're only there to inform them of Sul's plan, Dollie allows Kris and Ralsei to return from where they came and disappears with Sweater to meet Sul at The Pharmacy.
Trivia
- Despite not being inspired by anything in particular, the Sewers area is a hint at how sewer-like levels seem to be incredibly prevalent amongst most games.
- Furthermore, sewer levels are particularly common in horror games, which may have helped with making the level inherently more unnerving.
