Dollie

(You have some nerve. Honestly.)

- Dollie

Dollie is a Darkner from Cyber City. She's a mini-boss exclusive to the Outsider Route, being accessible only if venturing into the sewer system of Cyber City. She's one half of a mini-bossfight, accompanied by Sweater.

Dollie is also part of a small group of people who have been wronged by Gary, leaded by Sul. With the help of the player, they break into the TV Studio Tower to use Gary's portal machine to return back to their original Dark Worlds.

Profile

Appearence

Dollie is a small doll-looking Darkner. She wears a sleeveless black dress that reaches around her knees, a red ribbon tied around her waist. Her hair is pulled back and tied down into two pigtails that curve upwards, closed at the end with small red bows.

Her skin is white, her painted on round cheeks and pupils purple. Her face is round with a pointy small chin. Her eyes, eyebrows and mouth have hinges similar to dolls with moving facial parts; two puppet lines going down the corners of her mouth, and eye socket lines extending up to her eyebrows, her eyelids a separate piece. Her knees, elbows and wrists have ball joints, her legs ending in sharp pointy ends rather than feet. Her hands also have hinges around her fingers.

Personality

Dollie is a quiet, eerie thing; content watching rather than being part of the action. She has a habit of silently stalking or following people to scare them into passing her chain letter on. Since she’s mostly used to scare people until they pass her cursed chain letter on, she’s not used to cementing herself in one place or to other people. When forced to do just that, Dollie is like a haunting; she’ll appear and disappear, always keeping a distance. With time, she can learn to adapt and become interested in whoever she’s sharing a space with. It’s hard for Dollie to form bonds with people, so whenever she does care about somebody else, she’ll have her own ways of showing affection. She’s very stone faced, not emoting a lot, so she relies more on actions to show that she’s always listening - for better or for worse.

Main Story

History

Dollie is the embodiment of old "cursed" chain emails from the early 2000s. She operates by showing up on Darkners' inboxes in the form of a chain letter. The email reads that the receiver will be haunted if they don't forward the email to 3 other people. If one ignores the warning, Dollie will start haunting them until they either go mad or cave in and send her curse to somebody else. She hops around from victim to victim that way; traveling through the online grid connecting all electronic mail.

She eventually ends up with Spamton since he's the only one who'd still open up spam emails, but he doesn't believe that the chain letter is actually haunted. With this, Dollie tries to play her tricks on him; scaring him as he tries to make sales and go through the trash, try to scare him as he tries to sleep in garbage cans. But she always fails to scare the old trash man. So, defeated and unable to pass onto somebody else, she's left stuck with Spamton as he continues his "business".Dollie got used to finally settling down on a place and not hopping around from computer to computer on a few days basis. She became Spamton's assistant, bodyguard, partner in crime, they never really labeled it. Still, they work together with Dollie being the one getting them out of trouble most of the time.

One day as they worked together, Dollie suddenly felt herself falling through the floor, disappearing from Spamton's side in an instance. Once she came to it, she found herself in another part of Cyber City, but the longer she explored around, the quicker she realized she wasn't in the Cyber City she knew. She eventually found a group of other Darkners who also had fallen into this strange world; a masked pharmacist and his brutish addison bodyguard. The pharmacist explained to her how this was all the fault of one man; some monster in power who, while trying to save himself, ruined the lives of many other people, and how due to his meddling, everyone was now falling into his dimension by accident. Following their lead, Dollie stuck around with this group of strangers as they fought to break into this "monster's" lair and find a way to return everyone home.

Chapter [[GARY]]

The player can venture down into the sewage area of the city, long concrete tunnels that run all under the city. Enemies were scarce if not none in this area. The further into the tunnels they went, the more the player would find patches of ice and snow covering parts of the concrete. During this walk, Ralsei would speak to Kris about how weird this whole situation was. A Dark World without a Dark Fountain was practically unheard of, but the more they looked, the less likely it seemed that a Dark Fountain existed here at all. Ralsei tries to brainstorm how that would even be possible, or perhaps, how else a Dark Fountain could manifest itself if not in the usual way. If it wasn’t the usual pillar of flowing darkness they knew, what else could it look like? What other shape would it take? Before he could continue this thought, Ralsei and Kris were chased deeper into the tunnels by someone following behind them. Eventually, they reach a dead end and find themselves cornered by two Darkners, one quickly engaging in combat with them. After a quick CHECK, the player learns these are Dollie and Sweater, the other two members of Sul’s “team” who they’re supposed to recruit.

Dollie and Sweater are a duo mini bossfight exclusive to this route. If defeating any of them through FIGHTing, the other one would stop the battle to defend the other. If defeated through ACTing, Sweater will be the one stopping the battle regardless, begging Dollie to stop fighting as well. Regardless, Kris will be prompted to explain Sul’s plan to Dollie and Sweater. Realizing they can trust them, the duo decide to follow along, giving Kris one of two items before running off to presumably meet Sul at the pharmacy. If defeated through FIGHTing, Kris will receive the Doll Scarf from Dollie; a black and purple scarf, the thread screams. If defeated through ACTing, Kris will receive the IceBreaker; old desaturated glasses, the lenses damaged by frostbite.

Relationships

Spamton

Assistant, bodyguard, partner in crime, they never really labeled it. After realizing she was stuck with the washed out salesman, Dollie was forced to learn the man's ways and how she could live her life while attached to somebody else. She'd go from actively trying to scare him, to simply watching him from afar, to sometimes looking over his shoulder at what he was doing. Sensing that she was intrigued with his work, Spamton took advantage of this to have her help around the shop. Despite not being nearly as cunning or charismatic, Dollie would use her own type of pressure to scare people into making deals and buying things from the shop.

Gary

Supposed enemy. Dollie doesn't know much about Gary, but she believes what Sul tells her about the man... with a grain of salt. She haunts and scares people, but she's never been forced to fight somebody else. Still, all she wants is to return home to her own spamton. If that means having to sneak around this supposed monster of a man and maybe throw him off sometimes, she's willing to do that.

Sul

Reluctantly letting him lead her and their little group. Being the one who offered an explanation as to what was happening and the solution on how to get everyone back home, Dollie is somewhat forced to follow the addison's instructions if she wants to have any chance of returning home. She still takes most things he says with a pinch of salt. She's been with her Spamton long enough to realize when someone is being deceiving, especially to benefit themselves.

Kinder

Brute force of the team and fellow mute Darkner. Both Dollie and Kinder speak through ASL, so they managed to bond over that whenever in doubt of Sul's schemes. Her and Kinder end up being the muscle of the group; Kinder being brute force while Dollie works more as the stealth, both being able to be intimidating when necessary.

Sweater

Reminds her of her own Spamton. Sweater was the last one to fall in, and both him and Dollie clinged onto each other since they reminded each other of someone they'd lost due to Gary's meddling. They have the closest bond in the group, rarely leaving each other's side.

In-Battle

Attacks

In battle, Dollie is the more aggressive one, Sweater following behind only to assist her, which makes him easier to spare. Dollie’s attacks are themed after haunted dolls and chain letters, trying to scare the player into running into her attacks. Meanwhile, Sweater’s attacks are very minimal ice themed bullets that go along with Dollie’s more complex attacks. Dollie can be defeated by depleting her health bar down to 10% or filling her MERCY up to 100%. However, it is easier to fill Sweater’s MERCY, which would also end the battle. Some of Dollie's attacks are:
